Former Riruta lawmaker handed 30-year jail term for murder » Capital News

NAIROBI Kenya, Apr 13 — The court has sentenced former Riruta MCA Samuel Ndungu Njoroge and two co-accused persons to 30 years in jail for murder.

Njoroge and his co-accused namely Joyce Njambi Mungai and Wilson Mwangi Munyua murdered Lucy Njambi Nyagiko wife to MCA.

Kiambu High Court Justice Joel Ngugi said the accused persons brutally murdered the deceased who was not yet 25 years old.

The judge said the act of the accused persons was an extreme act of domestic violence and femicide carried out in the most brutish and sadistic ways.

“The punishment is to deter the offender or other persons from committing offenses of the same character. It is also to establish conditions which may facilitate rehabilitation of the offender, to manifest the denunciation by the court of the conduct in question, and to protect the community,” Ngugi said.

Perpetrators abducted, raped, and assaulted the deceased with sulfuric acid, and left her for the dead. They committed the offense on January 24, 2018, in Kiambu County.

The court established the second accused purchased the sulphuric acid used in the attack. The investigation established Munyua’s presence at the time of the crime through mobile phone data records.

Njambi died on January 26, 2018, at the Kenyatta National Hospital where she was receiving treatment after she was rescued in a coffee plantation.
