Former President Uhuru Kenyatta lands in South Africa ahead of elections
Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Johannesburg, South Africa Saturday evening, ahead of the country’s upcoming General Elections on May 29, 2024.
The African Union Commission (AUC) recently appointed Kenyatta to lead the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) for the poll.
“This appointment highlights the continent’s shared commitment to promoting transparency, credibility, and the integrity of electoral processes across its diverse nations,” a statement from the Retired President’s office said
Election observation missions play an essential role in safeguarding the integrity of electoral processes by providing impartial assessments and recommendations.
As the head of the AUEOM, Kenyatta will be leading a team of experts and observers who will be responsible for monitoring various aspects of the electoral process, including polling and the tabulation of results.
The people of South Africa will be casting their votes to elect a new National Assembly and the Provincial Legislature in each of the nine provinces.
