Former MCA arrested over son’s alleged link to Chemase murder
Police in Kapsabet town, Nandi County, have arrested former nominated Muhoroni MCA Carren Atieno Amuga after her son was implicated as the prime suspect in a murder investigation in Chemase.
The National Police Service (NPS) disclosed that the case is under investigation and may be connected to criminal activities. The incident involves the killing of Enock Kipsang, whose body was found in Chemase, sparking public outrage.
Carren was arrested along the Chemelil-Miwani-Kisumu road while reportedly attempting to flee her residence due to safety concerns following threats from angry community members.
Her vehicle has been impounded and is being held at Kapsabet Police Station as part of the ongoing investigation.
Nandi County Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) Peter Ochieng confirmed that the suspect had been arraigned at the Kapsabet Law Courts.
He added that investigations into the Chemase case are ongoing, with officers pursuing additional leads.
Chief Magistrate Kibet Sambu ordered the suspect to remain in police custody for four more days to allow prosecutors to complete their investigations.
The case is set for hearing on January 10, 2025.
The arrest comes days after members of the public stormed Chemase Police Post and freed a murder suspect, who was later lynched by a mob. The suspect, identified as Victor Kimutai, had been held in connection with the Chemase murder.
According to Tinderet Police Commander Johnson Mwariga, the suspect had provided information to investigators before the mob incident.
During the unrest, flags belonging to the National Police Service and Kenya Police Service were reportedly taken but were later recovered by officers at Chepswerta Market.
The NPS has called for public cooperation, urging citizens to allow law enforcement agencies to carry out their duties without interference. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities are committed to ensuring justice is served.
