Former Java CEO accused of obtaining money by false pretence




A former Chief Executive Officer of a Java coffee franchise was Wednesday arraigned before Milimani Law Courts Chief Magistrate Hon. Lucas Onyina at the Milimani Law Courts to answer charges of obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Derrick Cornelius Van Houten is alleged to have obtained a total of Ksh 7.9 million from Awil Abdirahman Adulle alleging to be in a position to approve and construct a Java Hotel for him in Narok town.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offence on diverse dates between October 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022, in Nairobi County where he worked as the CEO of Java.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on a cash bail of ksh.500, 000.
