Form 3 student shot dead in Molo as Gen Z protests turn deadly » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 25 – A Form 3 student was shot dead in Molo on Wednesday amid ongoing nationwide protests marking the first anniversary of the June 25 Gen Z demonstrations.

Reports indicate the student was caught in the chaos as police confronted demonstrators in the area.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear.

Four other individuals have been hospitalised with serious injuries following similar clashes, as tensions escalated in parts of the country.

The protests meant to honor over 60 lives lost during 2024 anti-Finance Bill demonstrations have sparked renewed unrest in major towns, with businesses in Nairobi, Kisii, Mombasa, and Nakuru either shut or operating cautiously due to the heavy police presence.

The latest fatality adds to growing concerns over the use of excessive force by law enforcement, even as human rights groups continue to call for accountability and restraint.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the Molo incident.
