Consequently, public health departments have been directed to support schools by conducting regular sanitary inspections, testing water quality, and responding promptly to any health concerns raised by schools.

The PS further reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to ensuring the safety and health of students.

“Our priority is to create a safe and supportive learning environment for all students during these challenging times. We urge all school administrations to be vigilant and proactive in implementing these measures.”

The key actions for schools include:

  1. Evacuation Plans: Ensure all schools have clear evacuation routes and warning signals.
  2. Water Safety: Treat or boil all water used for drinking, cooking, and hygiene.
  3. Hygiene Practices: Promote regular handwashing and safe food preparation.
  4. Avoid Floodwaters: Prohibit students from walking or playing in floodwaters.
  5. Mosquito Protection: Use mosquito nets and wear long sleeves in mosquito-prone areas.
  6. Facility Maintenance: Ensure toilets and bathrooms are in good condition.
  7. Food Safety: Properly store food to avoid contamination.
  8. Health Monitoring: Be vigilant for signs of disease and report any outbreaks promptly.
