Fire razes Sh7.5mn worth of sugar cane at Chemilil Sugar Company » Capital News

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 17 – Sugar Cane worth Sh7.5 million has been razed at the Chemilil Sugar Company fields.

According to a police report, the 12-month old sugarcane plantations in 16 hectares of land was destroyed on Saturday at around 1.00pm.

“The following farm blocks were destroyed by the fire, the D26 Estimated to 6.4 hectares, D27 Estimated to 6.5 hectares, C27 Estimated to 3.1 hectares. The total hectares burnt is 16 hectares a value at about 7.5 million shillings,” the police report stated.

Following the incident, officers from the Chemelil Police Post and Chemelil Sugar Company limited managed to put out the fire.

An investigation into the incident has now commenced.
