NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 15 – The family of central police Offier Comanding Station Samson Taalam has refuted claims that he was arrested while evading authorities, clarifying that he voluntarily surrendered to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Eldoret.
In an official statement released Sunday and signed by family representative Tonny Koskei, the family termed the reports circulating on social and mainstream media as “misleading and harmful,” urging the public to rely on verified information.
“Contrary to the claims that he was ‘arrested while on the run’ in Eldoret County, we clarify the following: Eldoret is his official and known place of residence he was not hiding,” the statement read in part.
The family further stated that Taalam presented himself to the DCI willingly and has been cooperating fully with the authorities.
“OCS Taalam voluntarily surrendered himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), demonstrating full cooperation with the ongoing process,” the family added.
According to the statement, Taalam was received “in good order” and remains in lawful custody as investigations continue.
“He is now in custody, in accordance with legal procedure, as investigations proceed,”the statement read.
While the details of the investigation involving the officer remain unclear, the family has urged restraint in reporting and called on media outlets to uphold accuracy and responsibility.
“Let the truth guide public discourse. We urge media outlets and individuals to verify facts before spreading harmful misinformation,” said Koskei.
Taalam has been identified by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and DCI as a prime suspect in the death of Albert Ojwang, who died while in police custody initially claimed a suicide but later autopsy found head injuries, neck compression, and soft-tissue trauma
