Family demands probe as missing 13-year-old girl found raped, murdered » Capital News
NYERI, Kenya, Apr 2 — A family in Kieni’s Satima village, Nyeri County, is demanding an exhaustive probe to unravel the mystery behind the murder of their kin — a 13-year-old girl.
Stella Wambui is believed to have been waylaid by an unknown assailant as she headed back home from a party at her grandparents’ home on Monday evening.
Wambui’s attacker then raped her before dumping the minor’s body — bearing visible injuries on the ear — a few kilometers away from her home.
The attacker ripped Wambui’s clothes pointing to a possible struggle.
Confirming the incident Kieni West police boss Samuel Ndegwa said the victim, who had arrived at her grandparents’ home in the company of her mother, left on a different route at about 6pm.
The family discovered the minor’s body at 8.30am on Tuesday following a search.
Ndegwa said the body had signs of strangulation.
Samuel Gathaine, the girl’s grandfather, told the police he released all party attendees after a parental blessing.
The victim’s cousin, Regina Wanjugu, called on the police to intensify the search for Wambui’s killers.
“As a family we believe the killer of my cousin lurks in the vicinity we demand justice for Wambui who was a jolly person,” she said.
Police move the victim’s body to a morgue in Mweiga pending a postmortem investigation to aid the probe.
