Facts about Agent Orange being used on demonstrators
Kenyans continue to demonstrate in different parts of the country. Notably, an orange powder is being used on demonstrators in the CBD. The big question is: what is it?
According to the Aspen Institute, Agent Orange was a herbicide mixture used by the U.S. military during the Vietnam War.
Much of it contained a dangerous chemical contaminant called dioxin. Production of Agent Orange ended in the 1970s and it is no longer in use.
However, the dioxin contaminant continues to have harmful impacts today. It can damage or destroy vital organs, cells, the immune system, and hormones. Dioxin is a carcinogen, which means it can cause cancer.
