Evelyn Wanjiru recounts harrowing fear of losing her hubby before childbirth
Gospel singer Evelyn Wanjiru is facing societal pressure to have baby number 2. The singer is in the US and spoke to the YouTube channel Mkenya Marekani TV where she praised her husband for being supportive.
“He had the liberty to leave, I was the problem, I had a problem with my menses, and it took time to regulate that but he walked the journey with me,” she said.
She was scared of losing her husband. “It was going to shake me big time,” she noted. The pressure of the community is once again on her to expand her family.
“It becomes a community business because you have allowed it. Right now everyone is like, ‘Oh your son now is grown.’ It’s too much. Right now we are getting a lot of that pressure. ‘Mwingine anakuja lini? The way you have gone to America, another child is coming.'”Â
She celebrated her son’s birthday on 6th April, which coincides with her anniversary.
“We celebrate that together because it’s been the faithfulness of God. Waiting has not been easy. 10 years of waiting in marriage for the fruit of the womb.
It’s been a real journey, and so God has really helped us to love each other, irregardless, to cover each other. There is no single day my husband stood in front of me and said, ‘Hey I am walking out.'”
Finishing she said,
“In my heart sincerely I was feeling scared. You know imefika 10 years. Jamaa ni mluhya bana, hujampea mtoto mnafanya nini kwa hiyo marriage? I was really scared, I could not show him.”
