Education ministry urges public schools to fully adopt E-procurement system

Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok has called on all public schools to fully transition to the government’s electronic procurement system (EGP).

Speaking during the commissioning of two new classrooms at St. James Esumeyia Primary School in Kakamega, funded under the T.I.G Project 2023/2024, Bitok said the digital procurement platform will ensure proper use of public funds and streamline infrastructure development.

The new platform will enable real-time monitoring of key procurement stages, including application submissions, issuance of award letters, and payment processes, thereby eliminating manual loopholes that have historically facilitated influence peddling, theft, and lack of accountability.

Bitok was accompanied by PS Beatrice Inyangala and EAC PS Caroline Karugu who reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening education infrastructure across the country.

The PS also condemned corporal punishment and sexual harassment terming them outdated and unlawful.

He revealed that investigations were ongoing in Marsabit over a reported case, warning that those found culpable will face legal consequences.
