
Education Ministry gets Ksh 702.7B in 2025/26 budget
The Education Ministry has secured Ksh 702.7 billion in the 2025/26 financial year as part of the Government’s agenda to promote high-quality in the sector.
The allocation to the education sector comes amid rising concerns of delays in disbursement of capitation, under-funding and accumulation of pending bills.
In the proposed allocation by the Treasury Ministry, Ksh 387.2 billion will go to the Teachers Servicer Commission which includes Ksh 7.2 billion for the recruitment of intern teachers and an additional Ksh980 million for capacity building of teachers on Competency Based Educaction (CBC).
The Treasury has also proposed an allocation of Ksh 7 billion for free primary education, Ksh 28.9 billion for Junior Secondary School and Ksh 51.9 billion set for Free Day Secondary Education.
Delivering the 2025/26 Budget on Thursday Parliament Buildings, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi noted further noted the Government will set aside an additional Ksh 5.9 billion for the next National Examinations, Ksh 3.0 billion for the School Feeding Programme, Ksh 7.2 billion for the recruitment of intern teachers and Ksh 4.0 billion for the Technical, Vocational Education Training (TVETs) and Entrepreneurship project.
On Higher Education, the Government has allocated Ksh 42.5 billion to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) for the provision of loans to University and TVET students, Ksh 16.9 billion for scholarship for university students and Ksh 7.7 capitation and scholarship for TVET students.
