Drama as Kennedy Onyango’s mother demands body

Drama ensued in Homa Bay when police halted the burial of 12-year-old Kennedy Onyango, scheduled at a home in Kamasengre village, Suba North constituency, due to a court order.

The boy died from a gunshot wound during the anti-government protests in Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County.

His mother, Josinter Anyango, planned to bury him in Rusinga Island. However, her alleged ex-husband, Denish Okinyi, insisted that the boy be buried at his home in Kisaku Village, Rangwe East Sub Location, Kaksingri West location in Homa Bay.

Anyango and her family had taken the body from the mortuary in the capital city and transported it to Homa Bay, arriving in Rusinga on Friday afternoon.

Upon their arrival, Okinyi’s family stormed the home, demanding the body for burial and presenting a court order prohibiting Anyango’s family from proceeding with the burial.

Okinyi had obtained the court order from the Mbita Law Court to stop Anyango from burying their son.

Okinyi and his associates arrived with a group of police officers to enforce the court order.

“Anyango and her friends from Nairobi initially engaged in a heated verbal confrontation with Okinyi, with tensions escalating rapidly,” a resident reported.

Police intervention was necessary to diffuse the situation.
