DP Kindiki reaffirms government-church partnership
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to partnering with the church in driving national development, stating that the state and religious institutions are not in competition but allies in uplifting communities.
Speaking during a church function in Riiji Catholic in Central Imenti, Prof. Kindiki lauded the Catholic Church for its immense contribution to social and economic progress, highlighting their involvement in education, water, and health projects.
“We will assist those churches that want our support. There is no competition between us and the church,” said Kindiki, noting that contributions from the government to churches would be offered respectfully and only upon invitation.
On matters of national development, the Deputy President assured residents that the economy was on the rebound, pointing to decreasing food prices, strengthening currency rates, and improved returns for coffee and dairy farmers.
Speaking on the Nithi- Killer bridge the Deputy president cleared the air by saying that the government has secured the funding of the multi billion project from the government of China.
He further announced that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) would take over Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital to spearhead its upgrade, and pledged new X-Ray and MRI equipment for Githongo Hospital in Central Imenti.
In response to rising insecurity concerns, Governor Mutuma called on the national government to address cattle rustling, noting that four bodies of slain Igembe Central residents remained in the mortuary. “We will not tire in demanding security for our people,” he said.
Kindiki dismissed concerns about political rivalry with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying: “The people will judge us by our contributions to development. We are not worried.”
