DP Gachagua urges Kenyans to embrace dialogue, call off protests

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Kenyans to call off planned protests and embrace dialogue as he condoled with families of those who lost loved ones in the demonstrations.

Gachagua appealed to the young people of Generation Z and others to heed to President William Ruto’s call for dialogue and engagement to solve issues affecting them.

Speaking at a press briefing in Mombasa on Wednesday, the Deputy President said it is time to reflect and act on issues raised by the young people.

“This is a time for reflection and action. We need to take immediate steps as the President has guided to engage Generation Z. I salute our young people for their courage and conviction and love for their motherland and I ask them to engage as requested by the President,” said the DP.

He asked the protestors to call off the demonstrations because the President has opened the way for dialogue.

“I appeal to them to call off the protests because their cry has been heard by the President. The President has accepted there was an issue and he has done the right thing and will engage them,” he added.

The Deputy President said it will be the norm listening to the people to avert situations as witnessed on Wednesday.

“Dialogue is critical to avert similar occurrences in the future. I thank the President for listening to the people. The President, myself and elected leaders are servants of the people. Going forward, this should be the norm, listening to the people,” he said.
