CS Wahome hails Kisumu’s Lumumba Housing Project as symbol of hope, opportunity

Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, Alice Wahome has described the Lumumba Affordable Housing Project in Kisumu as a symbol of hope, dignity and opportunity.

Speaking on Thursday when she toured the project that was launched in 2024, CS Wahome noted that Lumumba project is the true spirit of the Affordable Housing Programme at work transformational, inclusive, and visionary.

“This project is not just about bricks and mortar. It’s about restoring dignity, creating opportunity, and building a future where every Kenyan has access to decent, affordable housing. What we are witnessing here in Kisumu is the true spirit of the Affordable Housing Programme at work transformational, inclusive, and visionary.” CS Wahome noted.

She remarked that with completion scheduled for January 2026, the Lumumba Project stands as a shining example of how public-private collaboration and political will can turn bold visions into reality.

 Lumumba HOUSING

The project that is situated in Kisumu Central, will deliver 2,384 modern housing units, setting a new standard for affordable and dignified urban living in Kenya including, 452 social housing units, 1,192 affordable housing units as well as 740 market-rate apartments.

From modern studios to spacious three-bedroom apartments, the project caters to a wide spectrum of residents from young professionals to growing families.

Beyond the housing itself, the development is designed to create a complete, vibrant community, offering: Secure, well-lit streets and guardhouses, family-friendly play areas and a full clubhouse and a fully equipped health facility.

This as well as a modern shopping mall, an early childhood development (ECD) center as well as landscaped walkways and green spaces.
