CS Ruku vows to address delays in issuance of Good Conducts

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has undertaken to fast-track the processing of Certificates of Good Conduct following delays concerns across the country.

The recurring issue that has seen applicants report waiting times of several weeks and months after fingerprinting costing thousands of job seekers opportunities as the crucial document which is issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is key in verifying an individual’s criminal record status.

Speaking after an impromptu tour of Kiambu Huduma Centre in Thika town to assess service delivery, the CS said his office would collaborate with the relevant agencies to hasten the issuance of the crucial documents that are required by employers as part of mandatory background checks.

The CS at the same time said the government was considering decentralizing the issuance of passports to Huduma Centres to facilitate a wider reach of the service to all Kenyans.

He stated that should his proposal be okayed, immigration officers will be deployed at certain Huduma Centres to offer the crucial service at a time when Kenyans continue to increasingly seek jobs abroad.

CS Ruku further warned that civil servants who fail to deliver services as expected will be dealt with according to the law.

He challenged them to create an enabling environment for business and investment—whether local or international while reassuring the public that his ministry would work closely with all government departments to implement practical, timely, and citizen-centered reforms aimed at enhancing service delivery.

The CS toured the facility as early as 7:00 am where he found officers set and ready to offer services to Kenyans and lauded them for their patriotism.
