CS Mutua writes to Speaker Kingi over Senator Orwoba’s conduct
Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has written to Senate Speaker Amason Kingi accusing nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba of running a fake recruitment agency for export of labour.
The CS who appeared before the Senate Labour Committee also claimed that the nominated Senator has been extorting other recruitment agencies and also threatened ministry officials.
Senator Orwoba while admitting her office was working with national employment authority in looking for jobs for youths from Bobasi, said her interest in labour export was only to oversight the process.
Senator Orwoba had raised transparency questions regarding the fate of 89 Kenyans who had paid 15,000 to recruitment agencies but were yet to get the job opportunity.
CS Mutua explained the job opportunities were being availed in phases and people who didn’t travel had been refunded.
The Cabinet Secretary revealed there were plans to avail funds to Youth Development Fund and Uwezo Fund so that Kenyans can access loans for paying recruitment fees charged by recruitment agencies.
Although the committee declined to discuss the letter, Senator Orwoba was challenged to table evidence to support her claim that thousands of Kenyans were conned to pay for jobs abroad under the watch of Labour Ministry.
The Labour Ministry has however cautioned Kenyans seeking jobs abroad against travelling on tourist visas instead of working visas.
