Corrupt officials don’t belong in government – Murkomen
Interior and National Administration CS Kipchumba Murkomen has issued a warning to security officers involved in corrupt activities, stating that their days are numbered.
He cautioned that National Government administration officers, the National Police Service (NPS), and National Police Reservists caught engaging in corruption will face severe consequences.
“Corruption derails government efforts to provide services to the the citizens. Our main client is the Kenyan people and will not allow this to be compromised,” the CS asserted.
He stressed that it will not be business as usual for officers involved in corrupt practices, specifically mentioning issues such as human trafficking and charging for government services like ID applications.
“Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs, ACCs, and DCCs, among others, will not be retained if found culpable. No crime is smaller than another,” Murkomen stated, highlighting complaints from officers about being targeted by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for allegedly accepting bribes of Ksh.1000 while others steal billions.
“There is no smaller sin. Whether a thousand shilling or a billion. Governors are being arrested for graft allegations. CSs, PSs found collecting bribes are not spared. You will carry your cross alone,” warned the CS.
He stressed that effective service delivery is crucial for ensuring that President William Ruto’s administration fulfills its commitments and called on oversight agencies to continue their work in exposing corrupt officers.
“We urge the local community to help in the fight against corruption. We know of chiefs inciting their communities to attack other communities, some officers support human trafficking and will not condone this. We will engage Public Service Commission to relieve those implicated to defend their cases in court, while outside,” he stated.
Murkomen made these remarks in Kitui on the first day of his Jukwaa la Usalama tour in Lower Eastern.
