Constables Klinzy Barasa, Duncan Kiprono interdicted over shooting incident

The National Police Service has released the identities of two officers linked to the shooting of an unarmed civilian during Tuesday’s protests.

Police Constables Klinzy Barasa Masinde (No. 119413) and Duncan Kiprono (No. 117193), who were immediately arrested, have since been interdicted.

They are currently being processed by the Homicide Unit at DCI Headquarters, pending further action.

“Following yesterday’s disturbing shooting incident, the National Police Service (NPS) wishes to provide the following update to the public: The details of the two police officers arrested yesterday are as follows:  No. 119413 Police Constable Klinzy Barasa Masinde 2. No. 117193 Police Constable Duncan Kiprono”, detailed the statement signed by NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.

At the same time, the Police Service expressed regret over the incident, which it described as unjustified, while assuring the victim’s family that justice will be served.

The victim, a mask vendor identified as Boniface Mwangi Kariuki is recuperating at Kenyatta National Hospital’s ICU in Nairobi following successful surgery to remove a bullet lodged in the head.

“The National Police Service (NPS) deeply regrets this unjustified act and commiserates with the victim and his family, while reaffirming its full commitment to ensuring justice is served”, NPS assured.
