Coast leaders pledge support for Ruto ahead of 2027 polls
Leaders from the Coast region have reaffirmed their strong support for President William Ruto, citing his development track record and commitment to uplifting communities across the country, particularly in the coastal counties.
Speaking during the funeral of the late Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro, father of Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, the leaders declared that the region stands firmly behind the President and will support his re-election in the 2027 General Election.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi stated that the President has focused on initiating pro-people programmes, noting that the initiatives have directly impacted the lives of ordinary Kenyans.
“The kind of programmes President Ruto ameleta katika Jamhuri ya Kenya ni vitu ambavyo vinaguza mioyo wa wananchi wa kawaida. Certainly, adui atatetemeka, hence, this war. Rais, keep it there, usiyumbe,” he said
Kingi also warned against political betrayal, urging Coast leaders to remain focused: “Tusiteme Big G ambayo tumeitafuna kwa sababu ya karanga ya kuonjeshwa. We know what it means to support William Ruto. Sisi viongozi wa Pwani tuko nyuma ya Rais Ruto kwa sababu ya matendo yake na programmes za kumfaidi Mpwani,”
Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho echoed the Speaker’s sentiments, declaring that Coast leaders are united in their support.
“Jimbo la Pwani, sisi twajipanga. Hatupigani vita vya watu. Tunaunga mkono rais Ruto kwa hali na mali. Hata sisi tuna nia, baadaye jimbo la Pwani litoe rais. We assure you (Ruto) twajipanga, tutakuskuma sambamba, tuko na wewe sawia,” remarked Joho
His Sports counterpart, Salim Mvurya, addressed Wednesday’s protests and warned against inciting the youth into violence, stating that some politicians were exploiting them for personal gain.
“Tunajua kuna watu wanatumia vijana kuleta fujo. The youth of this country should not be duped into violence because the politicians who are inciting them have already arrived at their destination,” he said.
Governor Gideon Mung’aro stressed the region’s focus on development, stating “Tunachotaka sisi ni maendeleo ya watu wetu.”
Kilifi North MP Owen Baya and his counterpart from Kilifi South, Kenneth Chonga, affirmed the region’s support for Ruto’s re-election.
“If there is a president who has been a friend of Kilifi people, its William Ruto. Hatutaacha William Ruto. 2027, sisi watu wa Kilifi tutabakia na yeye watu wakipiga kelele,” stated Baya
“Heri shetani unayemjua kuliko malaika usiyemfahamu. Michakato ya siasa imeanza, watu wanapigana lakini sisi Wapwani hatuna vita na wewe Rais Ruto,” Chonga declared.
President William Ruto assured Coast residents of ongoing support and development, particularly in electrification and land reforms.
