The family explained that Cheruiyot fell into a crevasse just 48 meters from the summit (8,848 meters).

They noted that retrieving his body from such a high altitude would be extremely risky for the rescue team, and they do not wish to endanger any lives.

The family stated that Cheruiyot had a profound love for the mountains, and they find solace in knowing he rests in a place he cherished deeply.

The family expressed their appreciation for the outpouring of love and condolence messages from relatives, friends, and the outdoor community.

They specifically acknowledged the tremendous support received from the KCB Group family, where Joshua worked, stating, “We truly know that our son was loved.”

They also extended their gratitude to Seven Summit Treks for their support, information, and guidance during this time.

The family also mentioned that they pray for the family of Nawang Sherpa, Cheruiyot’s Sherpa during the expedition, who is still missing, adding, “May they find peace.”

A memorial service will be held in Nairobi and Chepterit village, with details to be communicated in due course.
