Calls for Transparent Probe into General Ogolla’s Death Gain Traction » Capital News

NAIROBI, KENYA, APRIL 21 – Kalonzo Musyoka, a Co-principal of Azimio, has urged the government to publicly disclose the cause of General Francis Ogolla’s death once investigations are completed.

Speaking in Ng’ya, Siaya, during General Ogolla’s burial service on Sunday, Kalonzo emphasized that Ogolla’s death is a national concern, demanding transparent answers.

General Ogolla, appointed Chief of Defence Forces in April 2023, died in a helicopter crash on April 18, 2024, alongside nine other officers.

“Mr. President, this is straightforward. We understand a team has been formed to investigate General Ogola’s death. Kenyans deserve the truth,” he stated, “This matter goes beyond Ogolla’s family; it’s a national issue. The truth must be made public.”

Echoing Kalonzo’s sentiments, Martha Karua, the leader of Narc Kenya, called for a swift investigation to address security concerns arising from the accident.

“Accidents like these raise security issues. The nation needs answers. We expect a thorough and prompt investigation,” she emphasized.

Siaya Governor James Orengo and Senator Oburu Odinga joined the call for thorough investigations, highlighting past tragedies and the need for transparency.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, speaking at the Ulinzi Stadium during General Ogolla’s memorial service, emphasized the importance of reviewing security equipment to prevent future accidents.

“Your Excellency, it’s time to reassess our military equipment. We’ve witnessed numerous accidents in recent years. We must take action to prevent further loss of lives,” he urged.

And when he stood to speak, President William Ruto said he has confidence that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will conduct thorough and impartial investigations.

“I know the KDF are as concerned as the family and every Kenyan just as I am and I want to assure Kenyans that they will ensure thorough investigations to establish what happened,” he told mourners in Siaya on Sunday during the burial of General Ogolla who was buried 72 hours after the Thursday accident in accordance with his wish.
