Cabinet Secretaries should list their achievements every year – Murkomen

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen is rooting for a programme where every Cabinet Secretary will have an opportunity to showcase to Kenyans what they have done in their dockets, at least every year.

This way, the Transport CS says, members of the public will be able to assess whether those entrusted with leadership responsibilities in government Ministries and Departments are doing what is expected of them.

He says some CSs have been unjustifiably condemned as incapable by a section of the public, yet they are doing a lot in their jurisdictions.

“Inafaa kila mwaka mawaziri wote wapelekwe kwa national discussion na kila mtu alete report card yake kuonyesha amefanyia nini Kenya. As a Minister of Transport, I have done a fantastic job in the last two years,” said Murkomen

The CS indicated that his track record in the Ministry of Transport speaks for itself but is willing to explain the specifics of what he has done since he was appointed a Cabinet Secretary.

“I am ready to account for every second that I go to my office at 6 o’clock in the morning until I leave in the evening. I am ready to give an account of what this government has done for the last two years in my Ministry,” he said

Murkomen holds the view that “it’s important for the people of Kenya to understand the status of their country” citing the situation in the country as at the time the Kenya Kwanza administration took over leadership.

“Wakati William Ruto alichukua urais, nikiingia kama waziri wake wa barabara, kuna deni ya Ksh.165 Billion ya macontractor wa barabara haikuwa imelipwa. Hiyo deni bado iko. Macontractor wengi wamefilisika kwa sababu hatujaweza kuwalipa,” he said

He gave the example of the Ministry of Transport where he said; “We have grappled with the challenge of pending bills for the last two years. We have real problems which require money,” and Kenyans ought to know about it.
