
Burial of girl who was defiled, murdered underway in Maragua amid outrage
The burial of a three-year-old girl who was defiled and murdered is underway in Maragua town, amid outrage that the perpetrators are still at large.
The body of Elizabeth Wamaitha Wanjiku, a pupil at Hope and Victory Academy in PP1 Elizabeth Wamaitha Wanjiku who went missing on February 9 was dumped in a dam.
The family and residents, who have protested a spate of insecurity incidents in the area, are demanding justice for the deceased, who was a PPI pupil.
On Tuesday, the Murang’a County security team boycotted a meeting they had organized in Maragua, citing political interference.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since taken over the case and is pursuing several leads.
The barbaric act has drawn condemnation in the wake of concerns over rising femicide cases.
“This heinous act is not just an assault on one child, but a grave violation against the sanctity of all human life and the safety of our community. Such barbarity has no place in our society, and we must unite to ensure that justice is served swiftly and decisively” an advocacy group called Raise Your Voice said.
“ We urgently call upon the law enforcement agencies to expedite their investigations, apprehend the perpetrator(s), and ensure they face the full force of the law. It is imperative that those responsible for this atrocity are held accountable to prevent such tragedies from recurring” it said.
