Judge Daniel Ogembo, presiding over Siaya High Court, has died

Ogembo was discovered deceased at his residence in Siaya on Wednesday. He had worked throughout Tuesday, July 16, before returning home alone.

His driver had dropped him off at his residence. However, when the driver arrived the next day to pick him up, Ogembo did not respond to calls or messages.

Concerned, the driver sought assistance to enter the house, where Ogembo’s body was found, according to police reports.

Authorities mentioned that Ogembo had reportedly complained of feeling unwell on Tuesday night before retiring to bed.

Police awaited the arrival of family members to manage the scene and initiate procedures. At the time of discovery on Wednesday morning, Ogembo was alone.

His body has been transferred to the mortuary pending autopsy and further investigation. His death follows closely after the passing of another judge, Justice David Majanja, who died due to complications from surgery.

Siaya Governor James Orengo expressed condolences, noting Ogembo’s remarkable ability to listen attentively, reflect thoughtfully, and offer concise insights that brought clarity in the courtroom.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Orengo remarked.

Judge Ogembo was appointed to the High Court in 2016, having begun his judicial career as a Magistrate in 2004. He served at various High Courts including Eldoret, Milimani, and Siaya since his appointment as a Judge. Ogembo was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1993.
