President Ruto signs IEBC Amendment Bill, 2024 into law
President William Ruto Tuesday signed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Amendment Bill, 2024 into law.
The signing of this bill paves the way for the establishment of the selection panel for appointing IEBC commissioners.
The IEBC Bill was passed by Parliament following the recommendations of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.
During the signing in President Ruto noted that the IEBC remains a cornerstone of Kenya´s democracy, responsible for overseeing regular elections at various levels and the overall ensuring that the electoral cycle is managed transparently and administered in an impartial, neutral, efficient, accurate and accountable manner.
“Today’s assent of the IEBC amendment bill therefore marks a significant step in the actualisation of one of the recommendations of NADCO and testifies to our country’s ability to navigate difficult, complex and sometimes divisive issues that could undermine national cohesion, stability and security, if left unattended.” President Ruto.
President Ruto said his administration will continue upholding the recommendations in the report in the spirit of the country’s unity.
During the signing at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), both opposition leader Raila Odinga and his Wiper counterpart Kalonzo Musyoka were present.
