NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 26 – Silas Jakakimba, a former aide to Raila Odinga, on Tuesday formally switched allegiance from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party to the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Cleophas Malala, the Secretary General of UDA, welcomed Jakakimba into the party.
Having served alongside Odinga for nearly 16 years, Jakakimba pledged his support to President William Ruto.
Before his defection, Jakakimba had also resigned as the legal adviser to Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga in July 2023, just nine months into the position.
Jakakimba is eyeing for the Suba North parliamentary seat in the 2027 elections.
He wants to challenge the incumbent MP, Millie Odhiambo, who is presently serving her second term.
