New York seeks to repeal old law that cheating is a crime

Cheating or on your spouse is a crime in New York. Well, it might not be illegal anymore because a new bill that seeks to repeal the ban. 

In 1907, cheating on your spouse became illegal which is punishable by up to three months behind bars and a fine of five hundred dollars (Ksh 66,000).

In state code, it is defined as when a person engages in sexual intercourse with another person at a time when he has a living spouse, or the other person has a living spouse.”

New York’s bill to repeal its ban has already passed the Assembly and is expected to soon pass the Senate before it can move to the governor’s office for a signature.

Charles Lavine, an assemblyman  who is also a sponsor of the bill told Times Union that “There are plenty of laws whose purpose is directly to protect the community. On the other hand, some laws embody nothing more than someone’s idea of moral outrage.”
