11 KU students killed in nasty Mombasa-Nairobi road accident

At least 11 Kenyatta University students have died following a nasty road accident that happened along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

According to Voi sub-county police commander Ibrahim Daffala, 10 students died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries while in hospital.

He added that at least 21 others have been seriously injured in the said accident and are currently admitted to various hospitals within the area including Moi County Referral Hospital in Voi.

The said accident involved the Kenyatta University bus and a trailer in the Maungu area. The bus is said to have carried 58 passengers while on its while to Mombasa for an academic trip.

In total, 42 students are admitted to various hospitals. About four students escaped unhurt and they were taken to Voi Police Station awaiting further processes.

The school bus was carrying public health students who were heading to Mombasa for an academic trip when their bus was hit by a trailer on the left side.

The trailer was heading to Nairobi at the time the accident occurred.

On the other hand, at least 5 people died and 18 others injured in another road accident along Olonguruone-Silibwet Road in Bomet County, on Monday, March 18, 2024.

The accident involved a matatu and a tractor.

“It happened that the driver was driving his motor vehicle from Olenguruone heading towards Bomet general direction and on reaching the location of the accident, the driver of the matatu failed to keep to his proper lane and rammed on the tractor,” a police report read.

The 18 injured people have been admitted to Tenwek Mission Hospital.
