Ian Ngige Njoroge, the 19 year old captured on video assaulting a police officer along Kamiti Road will appear before Court today (Friday) for hearing of his application to be released on bail.
Njoroge was charged at Milimani’s Magistrates Courts for causing actual bodily harm, resisting arrest and robbery with violence.
He was also produced before Traffic Court where he faced three counts of causing obstruction and carrying excess passengers.
Appearing before Trial Magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi, Ian denied two counts of robbery with violence against a police officer Jacob Ogendo.
According to the prosecution Njoroge is charged with robbing a Police Officer a police communication gadget and a phone, a Samsung brand worth Ksh 50,000.
On Thursday, the Prosecution opposed the release of Ian Ngige Njoroge on bail pending the hearing.
Principal Prosecution Counsel Victor Owiti, and Prosecution Counsel James Gachoka and Virginia Kariuki told Milimani Law Courts magistrate Ben Mark Ekhubi that there were compelling reasons to deny Mr. Ngige bail.
The prosecution counsel argued further that it was in the interest of justice that the accused person is not granted bail as the offences he is charged with are serious in nature.
The prosecution further explained to court that the denial of bail will send a warning to the public about the consequences of assaulting police officers and public servants in the line of duty.
