Limuri III: Raila endorses one man, one vote, one shilling formula
Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga has endorsed the one man one vote one shilling agenda adopted at the Limuru three meeting.
While receiving a copy of the resolutions from Jubilee party leaders, the former prime minister said the revenue sharing formulae will ensure equity in distribution of the national resources.
The opposition leader said unlike the current formula that discriminates for example on the sharing of bursaries, population based approach would ensure equity in sharing of the national resources across all the regions.
“We are committed to continue working together to benefit Kenya and all Kenyans. I believe these deliberations will eventually help bridge gaps and enhance devolution in this country. 35% revenue share for counties is still our minimum,” said Raila.
While defending the principle, Jubilee Party leaders led by secretary general Jeremiah Kioni, said the move will not disadvantage other regions but will ensure populated regions get their fair share of the national cake.
The approach has in the recent times received criticism from across the political divide for being perceived as discriminatory to areas with less population.
