Man kills 17-year-old girl in Turkana

A man was arrested after he attacked and killed a 17-year-old girl in a village in Turkana County.

The incident happened in Lochar-Emeyen village and police said they suspect differences for the death.

Witnesses said the assailant was armed with a blunt object during the weekend incident.

The girl died instantly. The assailant was later trailed and arrested over the murder, police said.

Meanwhile, police in Kapenguria, West Pokot are investigating murder in an incident where a woman died after being assaulted in a village.

The woman identified as Olivia Cheruto, 23 succumbed to her injuries at the Kapenguria County Referral Hospital at the weekend.

This was after she had apparently fought with her boyfriend in their house.

The suspect was arrested hours later pending further processing.

Police said a postmortem was planned to be conducted on the body.

Police said preliminary findings had shown the two fought over suspected love triangle claims leading to the fatal hit.

The woman had an injury on the left side of the head, police who saw the body said.

Else where Police arrested a 24-year-old man after he had allegedly hacked and killed his elder brother in a dispute over a piece of land in Maua, Meru County.

Benson Kareithi, 28 died in hospital after sustaining deep cuts in his hand in the fight, police said of the Saturday evening drama.

The younger brother had gone to Kareithi’s house and tricked him that there was a snake at the door.

The family has apparently been having a quarrel over the land they stay.

It was as Kareithi opened the door that the assailant hacked him several times and escaped the scene.

The family took the victim to the local police post where they were advised to rush him to hospital.

He was taken to a private hospital and later succumbed to injuries, police said.

Police visited the home and established the assailant had been trailed and cornered in one of the houses there by a mob which was baying for his blood.

The team acted swiftly and saved him from the angry mob.

Police said they will charge the suspect with murder.

Such murder incidents are on the rise in the country.

According to the Economic Survey 2024, there were 3,111 cases of homicide in 2020, 3,281 in 2021, 3,056 in 2022 and 3,031 in 2023.
