Karua wants Agriculture Ministry to come clear on legality of Miraa

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua now wants the government to address the legality of Miraa and Muguka farming and sale in Kenya.

Addressing the recent decision by some two Coastal counties to prohibit the sale of the two crops in their jurisdictions, Karua noted that the Ministry of Agriculture ought to clear the air over whether it is unlawful to trade the two crops.

She cites regulations that acknowledge them as legitimate and permissible.

“In the matter of Muguka ban in Mombasa and Kilifi Counties, what is the position of the Ministry of Agriculture in view of the Crop (Miraa) Regulations 2021 which recognizes both Miraa and Muguka as legitimate? There is an urgent need to resolve this contradiction,” she posted on her X account

The two counties last week ordered the closure of all retail and wholesale outlets dealing in the stimulant, amid an outcry by Miraa farmers and traders.
