Judges and magistrates re-elect Justice Majanja a member of JSC

High Court Judge David Majanja has been re-elected as a Commissioner to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC), representing the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA).

Justice Majanja will be a member of JSC for another five-year term. He was first elected to the position in May 2019.

He was appointed as a Judge of the High Court in 2011 and is currently stationed at the Milimani Civil Division.

As Judge of the High Court, he has served in various capacities including the Chairperson of the Human Resource Management Committee, a member of the Audit, Governance & Risk Management Committee, and Learning & Development Committee.

Majanja holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from the University of Pretoria and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi.

JSC consists of 11 members drawn from various institutions, groups, and interests, with the Chief Justice as the chairperson of the Commission;

Other representatives include; a Supreme Court judge elected by the judges of the Supreme Court, a Court of Appeal judge elected by the judges of the Court of Appeal; a High Court judge and one magistrate, one a woman and one a man, elected by the members of the association of judges and magistrates; the Attorney-General; two advocates, one a woman and one a man, each of whom has at least fifteen years’ experience, elected by the members of the statutory body responsible for the professional regulation of advocates; a person nominated by the Public Service Commission; and one woman and one man appointed by the President with the approval of the National Assembly to represent the public.
