Communicating with Your Devices:

While we may lack Iron Man’s Jarvis, we have virtual assistants such as Siri and Alexa that come quite close. To test their patience, try asking them a question or telling them an offensive joke.

Bionic Body Parts:

Amputees can regain movement and function with the help of increasingly advanced prosthetic limbs.

Bionics have a promising future, even though we haven’t arrived to Captain America’s vibranium arm just yet.

True, there are some science fiction innovations that have never left the realm of imagination (at least not yet).

Some of these we are still very much looking forward to:

Lightsabers:

It may be a reach according to the laws of physics at the moment, but wouldn’t it be incredible anyhow?

Teleportation:

Sending a beam of light across the universe may sound like a Star Wars concept, but the possibilities are endless!

Problematically complex is the topic of time travel. Leaving aside the moral quandaries, wouldn’t it be interesting to see bygone eras?

This is but a small sample of the remarkable ways in which science fiction influences and propels innovation in the actual world.
