I never took a bribe to influence a job

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 14 – Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda laid his case before senators to wriggle himself from the four charges against him by the County Assembly.

Monda was impeached on grounds of abuse of office, gross misconduct, and gross violation of the constitution.

On the first charge on abuse of office, the Kisii Deputy Governor denied receiving a bribe of Sh800,000, stating that he only received Sh500,000 as a loan from his longtime friend Joseph Misati.

Questioned why he sent Sh 100,000 to the Gusii Water Company Sacco Managing Director Lucy Wahito, Monda said he had erroneously sent the monies to Wahito instead of Gladys Aminga for payment of building materials.

“I erroneously sent money to Lucy Wahito instead of Gladys Aminga. The money was to be part of payment for building materials I am undertaking,” said Monda.

Monda was asked why he failed to reverse the money sent on MPesa which he answered that he slept unaware that he had sent the money to a wrong person.

The Kisii Deputy Governor realized the following day about the erroneous money transfer when Wahito called asking him for what purpose had sent the money for.

During cross-examination by County Assembly lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, Monda explained that he mistakenly sent the money to Lucy instead of Gladys.

“I would like to confirm that Lucy Wahito refunded the money that I had erroneously sent to her that I later sent to Gladys Aminga whom was the intended recipient in an instalment of Sh40,000 and later Sh60,000 which was meant for a consignment of building materials,” he said.
