Investigation into Mohbad’s death inconclusive
Report on the investigation into Mohbad’s death fails to determine his cause of death, seven months later.
Wednesday afternoon in Nigeria witnessed anger from internet users as, after waiting for over 7 months, the results of Mohbad’s autopsy were finally released, revealing that the cause of his death could not be determined.
Recall that the singer died under very suspicious circumstances after last year’s concert.
According to a local media outlet, the Forensic Pathologist from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Sunday Osiyemi, informed the investigators of Mohbad’s death that the autopsy results could not determine the cause of death.
Prof. Osiyemi told the coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi, that this conclusion could be attributed to several factors, one of which was the long delay, approximately 21 days, before the autopsy was conducted, during which the body had decomposed and been buried.
Further clarifying the matter, Mohbad’s family lawyer, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Wahab Shittu, said, “The pathologist said the body should have been exhumed within 12 hours after burial to prevent decomposition.
So, the summary he is giving is that the cause of death cannot be ascertained, and when you say the cause of death cannot be ascertained, it means suspicion, it is not clear, there is no specific reason.”
The lawyer also said the pathologist reviewed some drugs that the late Mohbad had taken before his death, which could have caused effects making it difficult to determine the cause of death.
Shittu said, “He also went further to say that it may be linked to the effects of certain drugs he was given before he died. Then he qualified it by saying he doesn’t know if those drugs caused his death.”
The case investigator has adjourned until June 11 for the Pathologist’s examination.
