NTSA intensifies crackdown on roads as schools reopen tomorrow

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged drivers to exercise caution on roads as schools reopen for second term tomorrow.

NTSA’s road safety manager Samuel Musumba warned drivers against speeding, reckless overtaking, overloading and driving under in the influence of alcohol.

“Following the recent floods that were experienced across the country, most roads are not in good condition and therefore drivers should exercise caution,” said Musumba.

He added that the authority will conduct checks on roads across the country to support Traffic Police to in enhancing road safety.

Parents have also been urged to ensure their children board PSVs and school buses that are compliant.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen, speaking in Homabay on Saturday said the government will be stepping up road compliance ahead of school reopening.

“We will be monitoring unroadworthy vehicles on the roads next week to ensure that all our people are safe,” he said.

The reopening of schools for the second term was initially scheduled for Monday, April 30, but was postponed twice to May 13 due to flooding across the country.
