Emotions high as witness narrate how Sh 800,000 bribe to Kisii DG led to family wrangles » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 13- Dispute between father and son on a bribery deal gone sour played out in the Senate during the ongoing impeachment case against Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda.
An emotionally eroded Dennis Mokaya narrated how his lost his lifetime savings when his family advised him to issue a bribe of Sh800,000 to the Kisii Deputy Governor to secure the commercial manager job at Gusii Water Company Sacco.
Tears welled uncontrollably as Mokaya testified against Monda on the bribery allegations that played out before senators on how he lost his life time saving and her wife had a miscarriage following the stress they went through.
Mokaya who was the first witness for the MCAs revealed that he sold his wife salon at Sh 500,000 in Ruai Town to raise the bribery amount and relocated his family to Kisii expectant he will secure the job.
“We sold the salon to Peter Mungai but my wife was initially not comfortable with the idea because that was our life time saving for 13 years but I persuaded her that the deal was the betterment of our lives,” he said.
The Kisii Deputy Governor was no stranger to Mokaya’s father, Joseph Misati, as they enjoyed a friendship that spanned more than 30 years.
Its alleged that Misati had engaged Mondi as the Deputy Governor who was taunted to be influential in securing the job as he was close to the GWASCO Managing Director Lucy Wahito.
The outcome of the talks were for the family to pay Sh 800,000 to secure the vacancy by influencing Wahito to shelve the post for Mokaya.
Mokaya and his wife raised the Sh 800,000 which was forwarded to his parents and subsequently forwarded to the Kisii Deputy Governor in three batches last year with Sh 500,000 sent on an Mpesa transaction with the rest Sh 300,000 delivered in cash.
When the Kisii Deputy Governor failed to secure the commercial manager to Mokaya even after she was shortlisted, he resorted to report the matter to Kisii County Assembly and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for investigation.
Mokaya’s father was angered by his son move to report the matter to the investigative agencies as he sought to protect his long-term friendship with the Kisii Deputy Governor.
Interestingly, Mokaya’s father is sent to appear before the Senators tomorrow as one of Monda’s witnesses.
“This is my life time saving but if he will choose friendship over the truth, then so be it,”Mokaya stated as he cried uncontrollably.
“I have nothing against my family but we have lost everything as we have built the business for 13 years but we lost everything and our parents have became unsupportive,”he added.
Mokaya claimed that following the disappointment the situation led to depression with his wife miscarried following the stressful turn of events.
“After we were disappointed,it was so stressful,my wife didn’t take it easy. She was expecting after 12 years of trial but my wife miscarried following the stress,”he said.
