Quick safety tips to follow during the floods -Red Cross
From Mwiki, to Githruai, Athi River, Mathare among other areas, horrific scenes have been witnessed owing to heavy rain that has resulted in flooding.
Kenyans who have been rendered homeless are counting losses, as others grieve the death of their loved ones.
Countless lives have been lost and the Kenya Red Cross has cautioned Nairobi Residents against risking their lives. They have issued several precautionary measures you should take in this rainy period.
Here is what the Kenya Red Cross is advising about plus an emergency number you can call toll free – 1199.
- Switch off electricity at the main switch if the house is flooded.
- Â Do not drive over a bridge that is flooded
- Avoid down power lines and muddy waters where power lines may have fallen
- Avoid parking, driving or conducting activities along streams or rivers during floods.
- In flooded areas, use a stick to test the depth before attempting to walk, cross.
- 1 Foot of moving water can sweep your vehicle away
- Just 6 inches of water can knock you down
- Evacuate immediately to elevated areas in case of flooding
KRCS also advises residents to listen to Radios/Tv stations to stay updated on the raisn and flooded situations.
