EACC denies reports of raid on Speaker Wetang’ula’s home
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has denied reports that its officers raided the home of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula.
In a statement, the commission dismissed the claims circulating online as false and misleading.
“The attention of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has been drawn to misleading social media posts alleging that EACC officers raided the residence of the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula. EACC wishes to clarify that these reports are false and misleading. The public is urged to rely only on official EACC communication channels for accurate information”, the statement read.
The claims come in the wake of President William Ruto’s warning to MPs, whom he accused of soliciting bribes.
Speaking during a parliamentary group meeting in Karen, President Ruto vowed decisive action, stating that those implicated would face arrest.
The President also announced the formation of a multi-agency team to fight corruption, bringing together 10 agencies.
However, the high court issued a conservatory order halting its implementation.
