Murkomen challenges Gachagua to submit security claims to authorities
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has called on former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to formally present any evidence he claims to possess on individuals collaborating with Al-Shabaab, instead of making what he termed “mere lies and soundbites” aimed at social media audiences.
Speaking during the Jukwaa la Usalama forum in Narok County, Murkomen expressed concern that Gachagua’s latest statements risk inciting the public and tarnishing Kenya’s image.
“Rigathi Gachagua claims to have information relevant to addressing Al-Shabaab and individuals conducting business with the enemy. However, when asked to put that information on proper record, he refuses. This amounts to mere lies and soundbites intended for social media, aimed at inciting the public and disparaging the nation,” Murkomen stated.
“It is laughable that a citizen of the Republic of Kenya, seeking high office, can appear before the Senate of another country and speak negatively about his own nation. We can see through his hypocrisy,” the CS lamented.
The Cabinet Secretary challenged Gachagua to back his claims with formal action:
“I challenge the former Deputy President to officially present his allegations if he truly believes he has information that can benefit this country. Until then, we will treat his claims as the usual propaganda and acknowledge the remarkable contradictions that he is now known for.”
Murkomen reminded all citizens of their civic duty in safeguarding national security.
“If you have evidence related to the safety and security of Kenyans, the right thing to do is to present it to the DCI. Provide the information so that those you accuse can be investigated, arrested, and prosecuted,” he said.
He further urged leaders to uphold national values as enshrined in Chapter 10 of the Constitution:
“Every citizen of this Republic has a duty to conduct themselves with patriotism. It is deeply regrettable that an individual who has served in high public office is now spreading falsehoods, campaigning against our own country, and speaking ill of our nation,” Murkomen stated.
The Interior CS warned that unsubstantiated public claims undermine ongoing security efforts.
