Nakhumicha, Waiguru vow ‘necessary action’ should medics fail to end strike » Capital News
NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 23 -The Ministry of Health and the Council of Governors have threatened to take necessary action if health workers unions led by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union do not call off their national strike which is at the 41st day.
Speaking after the medics failed to show up to sign a return to work formula Tuesday, Head of Public Service Felix Kosgey said some of the members in the committee felt the doctors were taking too much time to come to the table.
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha instructed the Ministry’s lawyers to move to court and seek a review of orders to allow the Ministry to take necessary action to make sure Kenyans continue to enjoy health services
Council of Governors Chairperson Anne Waiguru said county governments will soon institute disciplinary action against health workers who have absconded duty contrary to the court directive.
Since March 14, the doctors have abandoned their duty stations and have been protesting the government’s failure to post medical interns and obey a 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) on doctors’ labour terms.
