President Ruto arrives in Addis Ababa for UN food systems summit

The President was received at Bole International Airport by Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister Temesgen Tiruneh.

At the summit, he will deliver Kenya’s national statement, reaffirming the country’s commitment to transforming food systems to support sustainable development and enhance climate resilience.

According to a statement on X, President Ruto held talks with Prime Minister Abiy AhmedAli of Ethiopia at the National Palace ahead of the United Nations Food Systems Summit.

Ruto noted that Kenya and Ethiopia share a deep and historically robust relationship grounded in good neighbourliness and strong diplomatic ties.

“This enduring partnership has been characterised by mutual respect and cooperation, fostering stability and collaboration in the Horn of Africa.” President Ruto noted.

Further the President remarked that Kenya and Ethiopia ties are anchored on the Special Status Agreement signed in 2012.

The agreement serves as a framework for enhanced cooperation in infrastructure development, energy, trade and investment, and regional integration.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the President will hold bilateral talks with other leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and the African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, among others.
