Natembeya returns to office after 60-day court ban

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is back in office following the lapse of a 60-day ban issued by the court over corruption allegations.

Natembeya had been barred from office in May as part of his bail conditions after pleading not guilty to charges linked to irregular payments amounting to Ksh3.2 million made by the county government to two private firms.

The court directed him to stay away from office to allow the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to carry out investigations without interference.

The governor resumed duties on Monday at the county headquarters in Kitale, where he was welcomed by county staff.

In a message shared on his official X account, he said he had returned recharged and determined to deliver on his development agenda.

“No one will shake our resolve to rewrite our story. We are determined to fulfil every campaign pledge and ensure that the people of Trans Nzoia continue to enjoy the benefits that devolution has brought. That is my promise,” he stated

Natembeya said he will not be distracted by those he believes are working to derail his administration, adding that giving in to fear would mean betraying the people who elected him.

“If I were to give in to fear, I would be failing the very people who entrusted me with leadership. I am fully aware that there are forces working to distract and derail us, but we will not be moved.”

He urged the people of Trans Nzoia and Kenyans at large to remain united and focused, saying they must push forward together for a better country.
