Ichung’wah distances himself from protest violence, says chaos linked to Gachagua’s allies

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has dismissed allegations by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who accused him and other leaders of orchestrating the recent wave of unrest in parts of the country.

Speaking in response to what he termed as “absurd and shameless” claims, Ichung’wah maintained that the chaos witnessed during the June 25th protests — including destruction of property, attacks on homes, and the burning of Kikuyu Law Courts — was the work of Gachagua’s political allies.

“The only person responsible for Gachagua’s political downfall is Gachagua himself,” Ichung’wah asserted. “His allies are not victims — they are perpetrators, charged in courts of law with clear, damning evidence.”

Ichung’wah stressed that he has no hand in any unlawful acts, including storming police stations, as claimed by Gachagua. He challenged the former Deputy President to table evidence linking him to the unrest.

“If he has an ounce of evidence to prove otherwise, let him take it to the ICC, the UN, or whatever rooftop he prefers,” he said.  “But don’t mistake accountability for persecution.”

The Majority Leader cited the arrest of Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, an ally of Gachagua as sufficient proof that he is the one sponsoring chaos. Ichung’wah says that the legislator was caught on camera inciting looting during the protests.

He says the arrest of his allies is not a coincidence and accuses the former DP of perfecting a “culture of deception, incitement, and divisive politics” to shift blame to other people.

“If he has even an iota of evidence to back his wild allegations, he is free, just like every other Kenyan, to submit it to investigative agencies,” added Ichung’wah. “We will not allow him to weaponize lies to cleanse himself while dragging others into his abyss,”

“Gachagua’s allies, whom he has sponsored and shielded, are not victims. They are perpetrators, charged in courts of law with clear, damning evidence,” the Majority Leader said in a statement.

Ichung’wah also dismissed Gachagua’s past sensational claims — including an alleged poisoning of an MP — as fabricated drama intended to stir public sympathy.

“We will not allow criminals to pose as martyrs or anarchists to destabilize the nation for selfish political gain,” he stated.
