Chief Kadhi, Sheikh Athman Abdulhalim Hussein is dead. Sheikh Halim died at his home in Mombasa last night and will be laid to rest today after the Asr prayers.
Sheikh Abdulhalim death brings an abrupt end to his tenure as the head of Kenya’s Kadhis’ courts.
His death was announced today on X by Sheikh Jamaludin Osman, the Imam of Jamia Mosque.
Sheikh Abdulhalim was appointed as Kenya’s Chief Kadhi in July 2023 after a recruitment process led by the Judicial Service Commission.
He was selected from among five candidates who had been shortlisted to succeed Sheikh Ahmed Muhdhar, who retired after serving for 12 years and attaining the age of 60.
