Gachagua dismisses claims of plot to illegally seize power

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dismissed claims that the opposition movement is plotting to seize power unconstitutionally.

Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon, the Democracy for Citizens Party leader emphasised that the group is preparing for the 2027 general election and is focused on pushing for good governance and democratic reforms ahead of the polls.

“There is no leader in the opposition who is planning a coup. None has the capacity to do so”, he said.

He also urged the government to listen to the people’s concerns, particularly the youth, who he says are demanding honest leadership and economic fairness.

Additionally, he called on the government to support the middle class, asserting that its empowerment would drive job creation for the youth.

At the same time, Gachagua cautioned against suppressing demonstrators, saying they are simply calling for transparency, accountability, and good governance.

The former Deputy President announced that he will be embarking on a two-month tour of the United States.

“I am travelling to the United States tonight to talk to the Kenyans in diaspora and the international community about the state of our nation. I would have wanted to stay in the country at this time, but I have engagements which I am not able to postpone”, he stated.
